Your Guide to Healthy Holiday Living

The holiday season is once again upon us and I hope that you are super excited. It is that time that we get to spend with family, friends and co-workers at parties and other events. This is of course a great time, but can be hectic.

Around this time of year cold and flu season also begins and many people get run down and can’t wait for the New Year to be over so they can re-charge again. I’m going to help you so you don’t have to wait for the New Year and can keep your charge going throughout it all.

Holiday Eating

Christmas-dinnerLet’s start with one of the biggest culprits of them all. This of course is what we eat. There are many traditional foods that get cooked this time of year along with the endless batches of Christmas cookies.

  • Eating Tip # 1: Stay well hydrated- making sure that you are getting ½ of your body-weight in ounces of water will help you stay a little more full so you are less likely to overeat. It is also going to help remove toxins that build up and also make sure that your digestive system keeps moving.
  • Eating Tip # 2: Start with your veggies- here again is a way to help fill you up a little more so that you can avoid too many cookies, stuffing, pierogies, etc.
  • Eating Tip #3: Have people at your house- first hear me out on this one. If you have people come over then you can control the food that is being put out.
  • Eating Tip #4: You can still drink- Yes, I said that, but with some caveats. Make sure that you eat some fat and protein before you start drinking and that you are sure to stay well hydrated (see tip # 1) throughout the day. I enjoy some eggnog this time of year, so be sure to check out this link for some real homemade eggnog that is better for you than the store bought stuff.

How to Stay Healthy

  • Tip #1: Still get your sleep- with parties and family you may be staying up a little bit later, but be sure that you sleep in a little the next morning. Let your body recover, especially with it being dark early and the sun rising later the next day.
  • Tip #2: Get some Thieves Oil– this blend of oils is absolutely amazing to help keep your immune system strong and kicking butt. You do not want to get sick and this amazing time of year.
  • Tip #3: Move everyday- this can be a little walk outside, your usual workout or it can be a small workout followed by some working in. This way you get the heavy movement you may crave, but also the increased energy and immune system bump from working in. For more information check out my Introduction to Movement E-Book.

Tip #4: Have fun and love those you are around- don’t worry about getting sick or buying more presents. Just enjoy the time and laughs that you get to spend with those that are close to you.
